This month officially marks 90 days since I started my new big girl job in public health!✨ If you’ve been following along with my journey—whether through my past blog posts or over on TikTok—then you already know just how real the waiting season was for me. Post-grad life hit hard. I spent months navigating uncertainty, job applications, and countless interviews, all while trying to stay grounded in my purpose. It was a season filled with self-doubt, delayed timelines, and the constant reminder to keep showing up for myself, even when things didn’t make sense.
But now? I’m stepping fully into what I like to call my Grown Woman Era—a chapter marked by alignment, intentionality, and becoming the woman I once prayed to be. And with that, I’ve been learning just how essential work-life balance is to sustain this season. In today’s post, I’m sharing the practical things I do each week that make my life easier, more peaceful, and more joyful—because grown womanhood is not just about having the job or the title, it’s about protecting your peace while you handle business.
What Work-Life Balance Looks Like in My Grown Woman Era.
To me, work-life balance is all about showing up as the best version of myself while learning to romanticize the everyday—making even the most mundane routines feel meaningful. It means setting boundaries, creating space for joy, and unapologetically prioritizing rest.
Starting my new job definitely shifted a lot of my routines. For the first month or so, I struggled to find my rhythm. I was adjusting to my new responsibilities at work, while still trying to show up at home as a wife, squeeze in time to read on my Kindle (something I used to do daily), and of course, keep up with creating and editing content for my platforms. The truth is, I was exhausted. I’d get home at the end of the day and feel like my creative energy tank was on E—completely depleted.
But I quickly realized that if I wanted to sustain this new season, I needed to reframe how I approached balance. Work-life balance became less about perfectly managing it all, and more about being intentional with how I spent my time and energy. I knew I couldn’t pour from an empty cup—and for me, that meant my mental health had to remain a top priority.
Essentials That Keep Me Balanced Throughout the Week.
Finding work-life balance means building routines that support me, not drain me. These essentials aren’t just about staying productive—they’re about creating space for peace, joy, and intention every single day. Here’s how I structure my week to stay grounded:
Morning Non-negotiables.
I’m an early riser these days—and that’s by choice. Waking up early gives me enough time to move through my morning without rushing, which makes such a difference in how I show up for work. I ease into the day by making my coffee, spending a few minutes journaling or writing in my planner, and getting ready with intention (yes, even on work-from-home days).
Starting the day on my terms helps me feel more centered and less reactive. It’s a small act of self-care that sets the tone for everything else.
Workday Structure.
As a full-time public health professional and part-time content creator, time management is a major key. I try to protect my work hours by sticking to a daily schedule and minimizing distractions (using the App Limits feature on my iPhone is a game changer).
I’ve also learned that taking real lunch breaks and giving myself time to reset between tasks boosts my focus and helps me avoid burnout. Little things—like stepping outside for a few minutes or sipping iced coffee while answering emails—keep me grounded.
Evening Wind-Down.
My evenings are where I reset and refuel. I usually pack my lunch and iron my work clothes the night before—this small prep makes my mornings smoother and way less chaotic.
I also carve out time for myself: I edit content for about an hour and then wind down by reading a few chapters of my current book. Right now, I’m reading Can’t Get Enough by Kennedy Ryan and I love it already! Creating space for things that pour back into me has become a priority—and reading has definitely made its way back into my routine.
Weekend Recharge.
Weekends are no longer for catching up on burnout—they’re for rest and rhythm. I do my weekly reset on Sundays and Mondays by ordering groceries curbside (either after church or during my Monday lunch break). Starting the week with my meals and snacks planned helps me feel more in control and less likely to rely on last-minute decisions.
Sundays are also when I plan out my content—whether that’s brainstorming, batch recording, or simply mapping out what I want to share. Having this creative block carved out makes it easier to maintain consistency without overwhelming myself during the workweek.
But beyond the planning and prep, I truly cherish weekends as a time to reconnect—with myself and with my people. I love spending quality time with my family and friends, or enjoying a much-needed girl’s night with my girls. Laughter, food, good vibes—it fills my cup in ways that work never could.
Of course, some weekends are slower. I fully lean into a do-nothing day when I need it. Rest is productive too, and I’ve learned to honor the balance between being social and being still.
Lessons I'm Learning in Real Time.
Even with all these routines and resets in place, I’m still learning every day what balance actually looks and feels like in this season of life. Here are a few real-time lessons or essentials that continue to shape my Grown Woman Era:
You don’t have to do it all to be doing enough.
Just because your plate is full doesn’t mean it has to be heavy.
Rest is not a reward—it’s a requirement.
Boundaries are not selfish, they’re sacred.
Some days will feel unbalanced, and that’s okay. It doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
There’s power in saying “no” and freedom in honoring your capacity.
Balance looks different in every season, and learning to adapt with grace is the real flex.
I’m learning that being intentional with my time isn’t about being rigid or hyper-productive—it’s about being kind to myself. It’s about checking in, staying aligned, and protecting the peace I’ve worked so hard to build. Because at the end of the day, balance is a form of self-love.
I hope you enjoyed reading this post and that it inspires you to embrace balance in your own way. Be sure to follow me on all of my platforms (@Xis_Essentials) to see how I’ll continue navigating and nurturing my Grown Woman Era—one step, one reset, and one intentional choice at a time.
